Obituary

The Villages, FL - Gregory C. Jones, Sr. 69 long-time resident of Standish passed away Saturday October 12, 2024. He was born January 24, 1955, in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of Grover C. and Edith C. (Stevens) Jones, Jr. Greg grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut, graduating from Conard High School. While in school he joined the Chess Club & Football Team. After high school he enlisted in the Army National Guard and upon discharge he then served in the Army Reserve for an additional three years. He was a loyal member of the American Legion Post #0128 Standish, Maine. Greg married his high school sweetheart Trudy (Theriault) Jones in May 1977, and together they settled in Maine raising three wonderful children. He had multiple interests of which included being a firefighter alongside with his son, and for many years coached his girls through all their sports. Greg's greatest desire was to serve the Lord, in doing so he became a Secular Franciscan, modeling his life in the Spirit of Saint Francis. While as a member of St. Hyacinths Church he was involved in various ministries & committees serving on the church board, Eucharist Minister, & District Deputy for the Knights of Columbus. He was the Co-owner of The Abbey Catholic Book & Gift Shop in Scarborough, Maine. Upon the sale of the store in 2018 he and his wife fulfilled their dream to retire in Florida, where he enjoyed Stamp collecting, Pickle Ball, & Golfing. In addition to his wife Trudy (Theriault) of The Villages, FL, are his children, Gregory Jones, Jr. and his wife Fawn of Sanford, North Carolina, Denise Burnell and her significant other Wayne Atwood of Limington, Maine and Kristie Wilson and her husband Nick of Saco, Maine; his bonus daughter Chrissy Huff and her husband Jim of Standish; 8 grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica, Lisa, Nathan, Derek, Trent, Colby and Maci; 7 great grandchildren; two brothers, Alan Jones and his wife Donna of Ft. Myers, Florida and Ronnie Jones and his wife Ginny of Sarasota, Florida; a sister-in-law Bonny (Theriault) Sutera and husband Salvatore; brother-in-law Robert Theriault and significant other Jodi; several nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends. Visiting hours will be Thursday October 24, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday October 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua St. Hyacinth Church 268 Brown St., Westbrook. Burial will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be held after the burial at St. Hyacinth Church parish hall.
