George V. Hall 1938-2023 WINDHAM - George V. Hall, 85, Left this world on Thursday, May 4, 2023 after a brief illness. George went peacefully in a Portland hospital and was surrounded by his loving family. The life of George began with his birth at a Windham home on February 14, 1938. He was the oldest of three siblings and the son of the late Stanley V. Hall and Mary Hall. He received his first education and good work ethics from the family farm alongside his incredible parents and younger brother the late Russell Hall. Later in life his parents had daughter Karen, their last sibling who was married to the late Richard Lewsen. Karen was a special addition to the family and was very dear to George throughout his life. George graduated from Windham High with the very close Class of 1956. He still had many duties on the family farm including bringing the farm service bull to many small home farms where he then met the late Sandra Ordway in Gray who he married in 1959. In 1961 George at a young age thankfully made one of many great decisions in life. He made the tough choice not to stay working on the family farm and because of his strong likeness for John Deere equipment, Hall Implement Company was started below his parent’s farm on property George had bought in 1959. The business soon became a family one when oldest son Donald started in 1973 and later youngest son Stephen in 1976. Now both children are working beside him and wife Sandra as his great family business grew. In 2001 Sandra passed and the family was very saddened, but George and his two sons now owners pulled together with their team of dedicated employees to keep the company growing. Soon after both grandchildren came into the picture, with Derek starting during his school years who in 2006 graduated from a local community college and went to full time. Business was good and he was fortunate once again when granddaughter Lindsey started working full time with the business to complete the third generation. Hall Implement is now 62 years strong thanks to his strong work ethics coming from the family farm, his great business decisions, his great sons and grandchildren, past employees, and the dedicated team they have today -included a technician from 1983. The Hall Implement employees from the past are usually customers and often stopped in to see him plus the family with some of them being retired and also having their own family business. George throughout his years sponsored many community sports teams, parades, and local fairs including being a major sponsor of the Cumberland County Fair. He received countless numbers of community recognition plaques, and numerous other awards from the local public. One of the biggest honors was his receiving the 1986 Windham Chamber Business person of the Year award. He was part of and a contributor also to many great committees, groups, and organizations. Some of these are the Masons Presumpscot Lodge, a Shriner, a lifetime Member of the Cumberland Farmers Club, Sebago Lakes Region Chamber, Opportunity Farm, a local bank board, Camp Sunshine, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Maine Antique Power and Tractor clubs, Windham Land Trust, Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Windham Hill U.C.C., and also the Windham Historical Society was an important cause. George also had a wonderful life outside of the business and was fortunate to earn many business trips that took him and Sandra to many parts of the country and world. He liked traveling, being with family and friends that included he and Sandra snowmobiling with John Deere machines, and going to the family lake camp. Then George once again was very fortunate to make another great decision when he married his last love of his life Phyllis in 2011. All their years together were very special, even though time went by too fast and ended too soon. They enjoyed and had lots of good times with friends, along with trips to Europe, Alaska, and Canada to list a few. They enjoyed spending winter months at the Florida home rather it be with friends visiting or new friends formed from their close community. The great joy for both of them was coming back to see the spring blossoms at the property at the Little Sebago Lake home in Windham. Their most enjoyment was from the quite alone time they shared when watching the beautiful effects of the sun starting a new day along with waiting for the moon to rise high above as they often sat down on the end of the dock to see the light glisten across the tranquil lake and watch for the occasionally interruption of loons going by. George was very well known, and very well liked, and had a presence like no other in the community he supported. The family wants to thank all the wonderful staff who had a big heart for him at Maine Medical Center. He will be deeply missed by people of all ages, including many customers, and his many employees from being in business 62 years, community people, classmates, his friends, but most of all George will be forever missed by his loving wife Phyllis and close family. He is survived by his wife Phyllis Hall; two sons Donald Hall & wife Elizabeth, Stephen Hall; two grandchildren Derek Hall & wife Jeannie, Lindsey Hall & Jesse Loura; four great grandchildren Maicy, Mason, Maddie, & Maple; and his dear sister Karen “Hall” Lewsen; two step children Andrea & husband Geoff, Jeffrey; three step-grandchildren Layne, Gareth, & Callean A Ceremonial Masonic service followed by a church service will be held for family and friends starting at 5:00 on Friday May 19th, at the historic Windham Hill U.C.C. located at 140 Windham Center Road, Windham. The family extends a strong invite and encourages for all people that have memories of George to come to his family business at Hall Implement in Windham for a special celebration of life from 1:00 – 5:00 on Saturday May 20th.
