JOHNSON—Evelyn M. Johnson, 96, of Scarborough, died peacefully on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Springbrook Center in Westbrook. She was born on September 10, 1920, a daughter of Joseph and Carrie (Burrill) Pass. Evelyn was a graduate of Westbrook High School and went on to further her education at the Gorham Normal School. She married John D. Johnson Sr. and together they lived in the greater Portland area. During her working years, Evelyn worked as a secretary for several companies including Congdon Transportation, Mailing Panonski and Swartz, and The Portland Company. Evelyn was a devout Catholic and taught religious education to youngsters at St. Bartholomew's Parish and St. Anne's Church and was a lay member of the Carmelites. She enjoyed cooking and baking, studying Russian, painting and knitting. She is survived by her children, John D. Johnson Jr. of Scarborough, and Henry Johnson and his wife Debbie of Windham; many grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John D. Johnson Sr., a daughter in law, Joan Johnson, and a sister, Pauline Lewis. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Hillside Cemetery in Gorham.
