Gorham - Edythe A. (Wallace) DiMatteo, 90, died Thursday, October 13, at the Gorham House. She was born on July 21, 1926 in South Portland, a daughter of William and Lindia (Proctor) Wallace. Edythe grew up in Portland and attended local schools. She enjoyed a career at Burnham & Morrill, which is where she met her husband, Rocky, before becoming a homemaker and raising her children. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, that enjoyed cooking, home decorating and Christmas. In addition to her parents, Edythe was predeceased by her loving husband of 36 years, Rocco DiMatteo in 1983, daughter Claudia Charlebois in 1994, and siblings, Frank Wallace, Rose Thombs, and Mavis Valley. She is survived by her children, David DiMatteo and his wife Sue of Windham, and Linda Morrell and her husband Timothy Sr., of Windham; sister, Marion Small of Portland; grandchildren, Julie Plummer and her husband Roger, Michael Charlebois and his wife Shirley, Timothy Morrell Jr., and his wife Jenn, and Chad Morrell; great grandchildren, Michael Cote and Melissa Wells; and her 107 year old aunt, Cora Quimby of Machiasport. Edythe's family would like to thank the staff of the Oxford and Windsor II units of Gorham House for their care and support. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday October 18, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. An hour of visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
