PORTLAND - Donald Clayton Wood, 60, of Portland, ME passed away June 1, 2016 at his group home with Goodwill Industries after a long illness. Donald was born August 21, 1955 in Portland, ME, the son of Clayton and Beverly (Maxfield) Wood of Gorham, ME. He attended the Cerebral Palsy Center in Portland and at the age of 18 years old he moved into a group home on Carlton Street in Portland and worked various jobs thru Goodwill Industries in Portland. Despite Donald's disabilities at birth he was always happy, had a positive attitude and never complained or had a bad thing to say about anyone. Donald was one of Gods special people put on this earth to inspire others with his happiness and everybody fell in love with him. Over the years he has enjoyed bowling, swimming, snowshoeing, riding on snowmobiles, boats, motorcycles and loved listening and dancing to music. He also attended Community skills, Community Partners and Senior Enrichment Center helping to shop and deliver meals on wheels to senior citizens. Donald was a member of American Legion Post #197 of Westbrook. He is survived by his sisters Patricia and her husband George Russell of Standish and Donna Boivin of Windham and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Goodwill Residential Services for providing a great home environment for 42 years and all the amazing services provided for Donald's needs, and a special thanks to Keith (Don's adoptive big brother) and all the wonderful staff at his Newton Street home. A hour of visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00pm on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham followed by a 2:00pm memorial service at the chapel.
