Obituary

Craig Eric Sorenson, 62, passed away June 21st, 2024, at Windward Garden in Camden, ME. Craig was born March 25th, 1962, in Portland, ME to the late Richard and Sylvia Sorenson. Craig grew up in North Deering where he attended Deering High School. Everyone lovingly knew him as "the sheriff". Craig has a love for socialization and enjoyed partaking in many activities including bingo, puzzles, card games as well as bowling. Craig would compete in bowling tournaments for the special Olympics in which he was involved for many years. Craig was known to keep himself busy, aside from the many social activities, Craig worked weaving baskets and rugs at Costal workshop in Rockland. Craig also spent some time working for Goodwill in Portland. Craig also enjoyed many trips to camp, gatherings at the family's residence in Warren prior to his move to Windward Garden in Camden, and never missed a trip to McDonald's. Craig is survived by his siblings; Vicki (Jim) Stokes of Windham, Richard Jr. (Mary) Sorenson of South Portland, Christine (Alan) Zemla of Windham, and Brenda (Jay) Robinson of Limerick, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express gratitude to the staff at Robins Nest, a residential home for young men with intellectual disabilities in Warren, where Craig resided for 40 years until needing for extensive care in 2020 when he then moved to Windward Gardens. A private interment will be held at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland, ME. The family welcomes you to join a celebration of life that will be held at Christine Zemla's home 23 Birchwood Ave. Windham, ME 04062 on Sunday June 30th, 2024, from 1pm-4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Maine Special Olympics in honor of Craig, 525 Main St D, South Portland, ME 04106.
