WESTBROOK – Clifford E. Beane Sr. died on March 30, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Clifford was born in Westbrook, Maine on August 13, 1932 to Charles and Maude Beane and was raised there. He joined the Air Force in 1950 and served his country for 4 years as a B29 Crew Chief. At age 20, he married the girl next door, the love of his life, Mary Margaret Chaisson. Their love for each other was very special. Clifford and Margaret celebrated 62 years of marriage. For part of Clifford's time in the Air Force, they lived in Kansas. In 1954, Clifford and Margaret returned to their hometown of Westbrook where they raised their 4 children. Clifford launched his own home building business and built many homes in Maine. He was a talented carpenter and loved working with wood. He spent many a day working in his workroom at home carving wood into new and wonderful creations. After a few years in the home building business, Clifford joined S.D. Warren (now known as "Sappi") and worked there for 33 years. He first worked on the calendar machines and eventually transferred to the automatic finish machines. Clifford became a supervisor before retiring at age 58 in 1990. After retirement, Clifford spent many long hours helping his children build, remodel or repair their homes. He especially enjoyed helping his son Greg with his commercial apartment building in Biddeford. He did remodeling work for his daughter Lori in her homes in Maine and Maryland. His last big project was building an addition to his daughter Cathy's, home and remodeling the existing structure. In 2004, Clifford sold his home in Westbrook and moved to Florida. That lasted until 2010 when he moved back to Westbrook near his family. Clifford was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He loved to spend time with his family and play cards and dice. Clifford was a family man who loved being around his wife, children and grandchildren. He was always there to lend a family member or friend a helping hand. His greatest gift was the constant love, laughter, honesty and support he gave as a husband, father, grandfather and friend. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Loretta Hughes who traveled from Texas to help her sister, Mary Margaret take care of Clifford in the weeks prior to his passing. Many thanks to the staff at VNA Hospice and Mercy Hospital hospice care unit for their loving care of Clifford in his final days. Clifford is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Margaret Beane, daughter Catherine and husband Brian Williams, son Clifford Beane Jr., son Gregory Beane and friend Kelly Wescott, and daughter Lori Beane and husband Jim Luscombe, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
