Bruce Hershey Daman died July 4, 2022 in Scarborough, Maine after a courageous three year battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). He was born July 23, 1956 in Westfield, New Jersey, the son of Ernest Daman and the late Janet Daman. Bruce graduated from Westfield High School in 1974 and went on to attend the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, graduating in 1978. Bruce had a longstanding career in print, media and marketing. In 1983, he laid down roots in Portland, Maine with a position at The Marketing Group of New England. He later became the director of operations for Portland ad agency, Holt, Hughes & Stamell. In 1998, he joined Cole Haan as Director of Marketing Operations, staying with the company until 2005 when he joined Hannaford Supermarkets as their Director of Brand Communications. He held this position until his ALS diagnosis forced him to retire early in 2020. Bruce was passionate about building brands and producing creative content. He also cared deeply about his community, serving on the board of directors for Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine for eight years. Bruce loved skiing with his family, riding his motorcycle on the backroads of Maine & the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and relaxing at his cabin in Fryeburg, Maine. Bruce met his wife, Cindy, in Portland in 1985. They were married July 4, 1987 and celebrated 35 years of marriage this year. Bruce is survived by his wife Cindy Daman and children Tyler H. Daman, wife Katelyn and daughter Lily; Lindsey C. Daman; and his family pets. Also surviving are his father Ernest Daman and stepmother Gail Daman, sisters Cyndee and husband Gary Giordano, Diane and husband Mike Gates; his nieces Lauren and husband James Maclachlan, Molly and husband Tim Bowman and nephew Ryan Gates. Bruce was a dedicated ALS warrior committed to fundraising and raising awareness. He was an endlessly giving, thoughtful person, who touched the lives of everyone he met.
