Windham Berta (Schmoller) Graffam, 89, died, Thursday June 22, 2023, at her home. She was born March 19, 1934, in Germany, a daughter of Franz and Therese (Hartl) Schmoller. Berta grew up in Germany where she met her beloved husband Dave. They were married on October 12, 1957 and returned to the United States in 1959. They built a home together in Falmouth where they resided for many years. They then built their dream home in Windham in 1978, where they hosted many family gatherings over the years. In addition to her parents and husband Berta was predeceased by her son, Horst; brothers in Germany, Ernstl and Josef; and sister in Germany, Minna. She is survived by her grandsons in Germany, Harry, Christian, Stefan, and their families; brothers in Germany, Franz, Lois, Claus, and their families; Sisters in Germany: Lisie, Hilde, and Traudl and their families; Sisters in the U.S., Theresa, Maria, Irma and her companion Ike, and their families; a special nephew, Tom and his wife Tammy and their family; brother in – law, Ralph and his family; sister in – law, Joyce and her family; longtime friend, Rosie; and many nieces and nephews. Berta's family would like to thank the staff at Maine Medical Center SCR IV Therapy in Scarborough, and the nurses and aides at Hospice of Southern Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday June 28, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery, Windham.
