WINDHAM – Sylvia J. Harmon, 72, of Roosevelt Trail passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Sylvia was born in Saco, a daughter of Ray E. and Evelyn (Belanger) Grace and attended local Saco schools and Portland High School. She volunteered at Windham schools for years. She also worked some manufacturing, retail and accountings jobs. She eventually went to work for the Osteopathic Hospital of Maine/Brighton Medical Center as a switchboard operator and was there for 25 years, until her retirement. Sylvia enjoyed time spent with her husband, Wally, attending car racing events, going on various trips and ocean cruises, and going to family gatherings. She was also very fond of her trips to Boothbay with the "girls". On most nights, she spent time on the phone talking with friends about the day or what her grandchildren and great-grandchildren had been doing. She was a very loving woman and had many friends. She will be greatly missed by Barbara Fournier, her best friend of 55 years. She also had a special friendship with her sister Judy. Her husband, Waldo "Wally" E. Harmon died in 2001 after 34 years of marriage. She was predeceased by her brothers, Ralph and Richard Grace. She was a mother to Donald Harmon and his wife, Jennifer of Windham; Jim Harmon and his wife, Gina of Scarborough; Cyndi Dawson and her husband, Glen of Apex, NC; and Bob Harmon and his wife, Donna of Prospect Harbor. She was a sister to Mike Grace of Tampa, FL and Judy Chick of Eliot; She was a grandmother to Katie, Kyle, Keaton, Natasha, Jamie, Chris, Jennifer, Rob, Matt, Michael, Abby and 6 great-grandchildren. An hour of visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 11:00am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. Interment will be held in the spring at the West Cumberland Cemetery, Cumberland.
