Diane Thompson

On February 7, 2024 Diane Marie Thompson's spirit left us, but her wonderful impact and love will still be felt for generations. Diane was born at the Westbrook Community Hospital on December 3, 1951 and this began a journey of an exceptional life so well lived. Apparently she was the princess of Frenchtown, because her little brother somehow claimed the title of prince. As the protector of three brothers, Diane was fiercely loving. Life wasn't always easy growing up in Frenchtown, but Diane persevered. Diane went to St. Hyacynths Catholic school as a child, and graduated from Westbrook High School, class of 1970. Diane stayed busy working various jobs, but her most significant job during her early adult years was at Zayer's Department store. This is where this beautiful woman met the love of her life. The handsome, charismatic, Warren Thompson. They began a wonderful 53 year long love story. Diane and Warren married on November 27, 1970, and what came next, cemented Diane's legacy as the most loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. As Diane and Warren began growing their family in the 1970s, they established so many memorable ways to enjoy the holidays, birthdays and special events. These traditions are still carried on today , by the entire family. She always glowed with pride enjoying these special times with the family. Just being in her presence, having intimate time with "Mom" or "Nana," or being part of the rare times when she was simply "Diane," her impact on everyone she encountered was truly unforgettable. Through the years, as her children and grandchildren participated in sports, school, music, drama, etc, each child would scan the crowd, and always, I mean ALWAYS, see Nana there, giving her love and support. She was a constant presence and each childs biggest fan. Diane loved to travel and experience new adventures. She loved the feel of the sun on her face, she loved to read, she was smart, funny, caring, resilient and strong-willed. She loved her 35 years keeping Congin Elementary students nourished, as the greatest lunch lady to ever exist. She was more of a lunch chef than a traditional lunch lady. She loved so many things, but most... most of all, Diane loved her family. She loved her family with every ounce of her being, and every person who was blessed to receive this love from Diane knew it and felt it. The void that Diane has left is insurmountable, but the memories and love she leaves will endure with us as we navigate this life. Her presence will always be with us, her love will always be with us, our memories of this beautiful soul will always be with us. Diane was pre-deceased by her parents, Ludger Bernier and Berince Bernier (Kelly) and her infant daughter Amanda Beth Thompson. Diane is survived by her husband Warren, her four children: Scott (wife Geraldine), Faith (husband Edward), Corey (wife Miranda) and Brian. Diane profoundly loved everyone, but her greatest role, that she was so proud of was as "Nana". Her grandchildren that she loved, doted on and appreciated so much: Anna, Noah, Abraham, Theodore, Jack, Quinn, Olivia, Cole, Josephine, Samuel, Hazel and Lewis and two step-grandkids, Anais and Anthony. So many will miss Diane and have to find a way to process this void in their heart. This loss is met with profound sadness, but a hope that her impact and love will keep us all focused for our futures as her family and her legacy. This is what she would have wanted from us.
